The People Speak

It is inspiring and humbling to see the average citizen take part in an election. The poll on whether to include e-mail alerts in H I continues to galvanize the electorate. Particular thanks go to Africanuck and Diogenes Freed who have pointed out that the use of Bloglines is a very effective mechanism to allow readers to keep up with H I. Due consideration will be given to include H I in Bloglines or to include Bloglines in H I – whichever is easier.

No expense has been spared to ensure that this exercise in democracy is open and transparent. Early exit polling (conducted by the respected analysts at Countem & Guess) indicates that it’s too close to call. The National Electoral Committee of Iran has projected the results as: Pro e-mail alerts - 4, Anti e-mail alerts - 4, Pro Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khomenei - 36,972,189. The Cook County and Chicago Elections Commission is withholding the final results until the votes from Holy Angels Cemetery are counted. The United Nations observers were unable to attend the polling as H I was deemed to be too insecure. However, they are monitoring the vote from the Sheraton Maui Hotel in Hawaii.

Due to a last minute brief submitted by the ACLU to the Supreme Court (one wishes it had been brief), the polling box will remain open. It seems that the issue is how to ensure that people without any knowledge of, or connection to, the Internet can be enfranchised. It is the position of H I that the use of postal voting defeats at least the spirit, if not the intent, of the election. In a more worrying development, Sinn Fein has refused to participate on the grounds that the election may force them to put the IRA beyond use.

Please note: It has been reported that the Congressional Joint Committee on Visiting Places With Good Duty Free Shopping has decided to open hearings on this election. These rumours cannot be confirmed at this time.

I was VERY disturbed how I received no paper receipt indicating the recording of my vote.
